“Ruminant enteric methane reduction technology” contributes to carbon reduction and production efficiency improvement of livestock (Ruminant Feed Innovation Team at the Institute of Feed Research of CAAS)

Enteric methane emissions from ruminants account for 25% of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. The research team improved the microecological balance of ruminants and reduced enteric methane emissions by manipulating dietary nutrition composition, changing dietary forage proportion, optimizing dietary feed resources, and enhancing nutrient digestibility via supplementation of probiotics, enzyme compounds, and plant extracts. Application of this technology can increase milk yield by 784 kg per year and reduce approximately 681 kg of CO2 emissions, which represents social and environmental benefits.
